Rwanda government has formulated national e-mobility policy aimed at supporting the introduction of electric motorcycles in Rwanda. Manufacturers of electric motorcycles have already penetrated the Rwanda motorcycles market and are elated at the announcement of a national policy in their support.
Motorcycle-taxi riders in Rwanda are also happy as the cost of purchasing an electric motorcycle is a lot cheaper than the petrol-driven motorcycles. In addition, money will be saved in the purchase of fuel for their motorcycles.
It is noteworthy to mention that the world is now turning to products that will reduce greenhouse emissions. Pollutions produced by the introduction of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere contribute largely to greenhouse emissions.
Rwanda step in the right direction, however, this is only an introduction of the product into Rwanda. The question is -would Rwandas be trained to produce these motorcycles? Or is this another avenue for capital flight off Africa?
