As we enter a new year, many of us set resolutions for ourselves. However, breaking these resolutions within the first few weeks is common, leading to feelings of disappointment and frustration. But instead of setting unattainable resolutions, we can take a different approach and set goals that are both achievable and honor Christ.
To begin with;
we can set goals related to areas of our lives that need improvement, such as reading more books, losing weight, or being more disciplined. But beyond these, we can also set goals that challenge us to deepen our walk with Christ and let others see Jesus in us. These goals may include spending more time in prayer and Bible study, serving others, or being more patient and loving towards those around us.
Once we have set our goals, we can commit them to God and ask for His help in achieving them. We can reflect on the words of Colossians 3:17, which remind us to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. By committing our goals to God, we acknowledge that we cannot achieve them on our own and that we need His grace and strength to see us through.
The story of Paul and Barnabas
Acts 13 offers us a powerful reminder of the importance of trusting in God’s grace. As they embarked on their mission trip, they relied on God to lead and guide them, recognizing that the work they were doing had been given to them by God. And when they returned to Antioch, they recognized that it was only through God’s grace that they were able to accomplish what they had set out to do.
In the same way, we too can commend our plans and goals to the grace of God. By trusting in God’s grace, we can be confident that we will be able to achieve what we have set out to do, knowing that it is only through Him that we can do so.
Fast forward a few years, and we can look back on the goals we set and see how they were achieved through God’s grace. However, it’s important to note that the journey towards achieving our goals is not always smooth sailing. There will be times when we stumble and fall, but the key is to keep pressing on and trusting in God’s grace to see us through.
As we set our goals for the future, let us remember to commend them to the grace of God. Let us trust in Him to guide us and strengthen us as we work towards achieving our goals, and let us celebrate His faithfulness and grace as we look back on what we have accomplished.

But beyond setting goals and achieving them, let us also strive to live our lives in a way that honors Christ. Let us be intentional about the way we speak and act, letting others see Jesus in us. And let us be quick to extend grace and love to those around us, just as God has showered His grace and love upon us.
In conclusion, let us approach the new year with a new perspective. Let us set goals that are both achievable and honor Christ, and let us commit these goals to the grace of God. By doing so, we can be confident that we will be able to accomplish what we have set out to do, knowing that it is only through Him that we can do so.
