Saturday, August 10 2019, a petroleum tanker exploded at Morogoro, about 12 miles from the country’s capital Da re Salam, killing over 50 people while several others were injured. The fuel tanker was involved in an accident and people used the opportunity to scoop fuel which ignited fire that caused the explosion.

Regional Police Commissioner, Steve Kabwe confirmed the incident.

Poverty levels in most African countries has made it inevitable for people to ignore the serious danger associated with scooping petroleum, a highly explosive gas at oil tanker accident sites. No lesson has been learnt at similar incidents in the past with horrible images of people burnt to death while stealing fuel.
